There wasn’t that one moment when I felt instantly better, but slowly and surely I started to feel a bit more like me again. It’s like a Russian doll where it gets smaller and smaller but it’s still so hard.

I’m becoming more and more aware of the reality that she’s not here. After her death, I’d go to ring her and it would all come back to me. I would ring her six or seven times a day. But as soon as the clock struck 8pm and she was in bed, every emotion would come out of me. Maybe it’s a mum thing or maybe it’s from being in the Sugababes and being a performer.

I just knew I couldn’t show anything to her. I kept getting flashbacks of my mum throughout the day and I’d struggle to cope with them by evening.

I’d find myself trying to watch TV and, without realising, two hours had gone by and I had no idea what I’d been watching. I’d go through the day with Amirah but once she was asleep, I’d shower, get my dinner ready and break down. Not being able to have simple human contact was hard to deal with.
